Checky Herrington, APR, Fellow PRSA

Checky Herrington is currently the market research analyst at Mississippi State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in communications with honors. With more than 30 years of experience, his public relations career started in 1982 when he served in the administration of Mississippi Governor William Winter as director of media relations helping pass the 1982 Education Reform Act. He moved from government PR to Entergy Corporation, a Fortune 500 energy company, where he worked for more than 25 years.

Herrington created the company’s first branding strategy and helped their customer satisfaction ratings increase from 52 percent to 95 percent within one year. The company is now top-ranked in the nation by J.D. Power Associates. After serving in three different communications positions for Entergy, he decided to return to his alma mater to serve as a senior member of the university’s public affairs team. An accredited public relations professional, Herrington is also a member of the Public Relations Society of America, as well as a 2015 inductee to PRSA’s prestigious College of Fellows.

Throughout his 30 years, his work has earned more than 100 awards, including PRSA’s Silver Anvil Award.
